do not perform this: a song cycle

do not perform this: a song cycle (forthcoming)

I was blessed to accept the Great Indian Poetry Collective’s Editor’s Choice Award for my poetry manuscript “do not perform this,” an experimental collection of music compositions that are rendered as poetry by the overarching instruction that none of the pieces may be performed. Each piece explores this enforced silence, its definitions, motivations, and effects, and the soundscapes that can be found in the emotional world.

Writing DNPT was a special moment of catharsis and one which has fundamentally changed me as a person as well as an artist. I’m ecstatic to see this vision grow.

From the GIPC:

“The selection committee found Divya’s book to be playful and exploratory, delving into trauma and identity. The poems are highly musical, at times experimental, and polyvocal. The collection examines various aspects of C-PTSD and historical trauma in a way that is both compelling and triumphant.”
